MEDIS Wants to Give Control over Data Back to Patients
MEDIS is a blockchain-supported system which gives control to patients over their medical records. The system utilizes distributed storage technology and strong cryptographic encryption thus addressing the problem of confidentiality. Currently, healthcare institutions use disconnected EMR systems. Medical records of a patient are spread across multiple storages and are practically inaccessible to the patient. MEDIS wants to change this approach and to offer value to the patient by providing centralized storage and control over the data. Aside from records storage and access, MEDIS provides means of monetization. For example, patients can opt in to monetize their data and set a price in tokens for their record entries. Thus, patient agrees to give non-exclusive, revocable, read-only permission to an anonymized version of the record to all entities interacting with the system.
